Ep. 89 - The Blood Countess

THE BLOOD COUNTESS | A GOTHIC HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

Tonight, we travel deep into the mountains of 16th-century Hungary, where castles rise above dark forests, villages disappear beneath the fog, and whispers of a terrible secret begin spreading through the countryside.

For this special episode of The Supernaturals Podcast, we tell the story of Elizabeth Báthory, the Blood Countess, as you've never heard it before.

Rather than simply recounting her story, we've created this episode as a Gothic horror novel brought to life. From the landscape and isolated villages of historical Hungary to the daily life of the people who lived beneath the shadow of the aristocracy, we set the scene before descending into one of history's darkest legends.

Young servant girls begin disappearing.

Rumors spread through the countryside.

And behind the walls of Čachtice Castle, stories emerge of unimaginable cruelty.

Elizabeth Báthory has become one of the most infamous figures in true crime and dark history, accused of torturing and murdering numerous young women. But perhaps the most famous part of her legend is the horrifying claim that she bathed in the blood of her victims in an attempt to preserve her youth and beauty.

But how much of the Blood Countess legend is actually true?

In this Halloween Gothic Special, we explore the history and folklore surrounding Elizabeth Báthory, the alleged murders, the missing servant girls, the infamous blood-bathing legend, the investigation into Čachtice Castle, and the questions that still surround her story centuries later.

Was Elizabeth Báthory truly one of history's most prolific female killers?

Was the infamous story of bathing in blood nothing more than a later legend?

Or is there something darker hidden beneath the centuries of folklore?

Turn off the lights.

Put on your headphones.

And step into the darkness.

The story of the Blood Countess begins now.
